INCENZO’s Retreat: Using Ambergris as Its Core Ingredient

INCENZO Incense Rooted in Taoism and Traditional Chinese Culture

Ambergris might be a pretty unfamiliar name to most people, but is actually an ingredient being used frequently in incense recipes with a long history.

What is Ambergris? It’s a solid, waxy, flammable substance of a dull gray or blackish color produced in the digestive system of sperm whales. From its name, one can easily tell that it’s a type of amber, but produced very differently.

INCENZO Retreat Incense Ingredient Ambergris

Due to its marine origin, ambergris naturally brings an ocean-like scent mixing savoriness and wateriness. As it ages, the sweet and earthy scent increases, providing a character with more complexity and nothing one can find on land. Therefore, ambergris is a commonly used and highly valued ingredient for any type of scented products, both in perfumes and in incense.

In the spirit of bringing delightful and special sensory experience, we’ve curated ambergris to be part of the collection and combine it with the woody base from agarwood and sandalwood to ground the waves.
