How Incense Stick is Also Time Itself
Besides serving the purpose of bringing a decent scent to the atmosphere inside a room, incense sticks actually also traditionally serve the purpose of counting times.
There is a word still commonly used today called “the length of time of an incense stick” (一炷香的时间), which embodies the history of being a timer when clock was not introduced and easily accessible back in the ancient times.
Although time is everywhere in our daily lives, whether it’s on your phone or the clocks hanging in buildings, it becomes much harder to be aware of how time passed by.
Deriving from the purpose of a timer, we believe that incense sticks are THE object that forms time into a tangible item. Lighting an incense stick and watching it burn into a pile of ashes feels like time is captured and transformed just like how human beings live their lives.
We very much encourage letting incense sticks serve the dual purpose of timing and company, whether you’re practicing yoga, reading a book, meditating, working or simply doing house chores.
INCENZO’s Take on Making Time Tangible
To echo the character of incense stick and the philosophy of our brand, not only did we ensure that our package is made of recycled paper, but also we chose to preserve the “rawness” of the labels.
We deliberately decided not to use any surface coating and keep the paper texture that matches our overall packaging, and our mission to be environmentally friendly.
Any type of surface coating, be it matte or glossy, inevitably creates plastic. Therefore, when you see some wear marks on the labels and fading out of colors, think of it as a measurement of time just like the incense sticks it holds inside.
As incense ashes from natural ingredients can be easily decomposed in soil and can even serve as fertilizer, we would like our package to be recyclable as well. What from nature goes back into nature. What is made with time embedded flows and changes with time released from its form of incense sticks.
